A: The reason why women are sometimes nicknamed "broads" - (or used to be, before political correctness took firm control of the English language...!) - is 'broadly' obvious... Namely, that when viewed from behind, the adult female figure generally looks much "broader in the beam" and thus proportionally wider across the hips than that of her male counterpart - a commonplace image often accentuated by the narrow wasp-like waist of the ideal woman.
