Tango Life

In Buenos Aires

So the thing that got me here in the first place ‘Tango’, well — I’ve been dancing! El Beso, Sunday was pretty formal and a bit intimidating. I went again on Monday and it was a lot more relaxed, more like home!

The Centro Cultural Borges has a ton of classes everyday with different teachers, I have a punch card and will go back to try get some variety, it is the spice of life!

Confiteria Ideal, Woa … It’s like the classic tango salon of the movies, can’t wait to dance there it’s so beautiful. La Virtua, salsa and Tango, very relaxed big space with lots of dancers …. leaders! Not too bad for my first week!Brig_perspec_logo
Tried to upload a video but no go :(! This week managed to get to El Beso for women’s technique series on Saturday and the lesson and Milonga Sunday, far less intimidating this time! Lesson and Milonga Monday as well. Tuesday Confiteria Ideal with Eduardo Saucedo, really good lesson, he gave me some things to work on. I also met a man from Mendoza who has a tour company and does wine & adventure tours, fate? Tuesday evening I made it to Salón Canning, it was absolutely packed, eventually found a place to sit/put my bag, got in a few dances, and there was a fabulous
live band. Really amazing music, but literally nowhere to move on the floor! Did a lesson on Friday at Cultural Center that was great , I will go back to this teachers lessons. There are so many places to dance here! If my feet hold out I will make it to all of them! Pretty much everyone i meet is here for two or three weeks max so they go hardcore every night, I’m trying to find a balance and so far it’s been good!

Let see it’s been a week and with Spanish school I haven’t been out in the evening as much, however, I have been continuing with the women’s technique class at El Beso. I like the teacher there very much, Maria Plazaola. I stayed awhile for the Milonga and then went to Villa Malcolm which had a live band and was packed. After that checked out a Salsa place, Azucar in Palermo, but it wasn’t that great, the music was bad! And Sunday I was at Beso again, I got a better seat this time, I must be moving up in the world LOL, and got in quite a few dances before I left, it was a school night. The rest of the week was classes, Eduardo Villegas,Eduardo Saucedo & Verónica Alegre. I’ve taken a week off from school so I hope to get to some of the places on my list this week. Next weekend is Pascua/Easter and it’s a six, yes six, day holiday!

These are the ‘feo’ shoes, my left foot has been a problem and these are helping. I’ve diagnosed myself, I may have metarsalagia, ohhhh internet! Which needs rest, ice and better fitting shoes. These are great for lessons, 3 or 4 hours in heels and that is usually enough for me, so this pair of dance sneakers extends my dance time, YA!

These are the ‘bonito’ pair! And wide enough for my feet. The shoes I brought with me are not feeling comfortable at all, maybe it’s all the walking or the heat or a combo of the two, but I want to pitch my old dance shoes in the bin, they don’t feel good. Fortunately, there are lots of dance shoes here, bad news, they cost pretty much the same as home :(!
I’ve also begun private lessons, it feels more productive already!

  1. I hope you’ll be willing to show us some good stuff when you are back here! Nothing like intensive learning and dancing to sharpen skills. Did you manage to take in any of the festival? We miss you!

    • I didn’t get to any of the festival, but did meet a lot of the people who were/are here for it. If I think I have any skills to share I will definitely pass them on! I took a women’s technique class this afternoon, I feel like I can’t even dance now, I will have to get to a Milonga tonight, Gricele is on the list! Chau
